Best Fonts for Discord: Nicknames, Server Names & Bios (2025)

Discord doesn't have a font selector — but that doesn't mean you're stuck with the default font. Unicode text characters display in different font styles in every Discord field: nicknames, server names, channel names, roles, and bios. This guide covers everything you need to know.

How Discord Fonts Work

Discord renders text using your device's system font. Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric characters — bold 𝗕, italic 𝘐, gothic 𝔊, monospace 𝙼 — are different characters from regular Latin letters. They look like different font styles but are plain text. Discord treats them as regular characters and renders them in whatever font style they represent.

This is different from Discord's Markdown formatting (**bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~). Markdown only renders in message content. Unicode fonts work everywhere — nicknames, server names, channel names, bios — because they are actual characters, not formatting markup.

Best Font Styles for Discord

Gothic / Fraktur (𝔊𝔬𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔠) — The most popular Discord font style. Blackletter medieval letterforms. Dominant in gaming servers, metal music communities, roleplay servers, and dark aesthetic Discord spaces. Immediately recognizable and commands visual attention in member lists.
